Adam Shen Xu Dong/沈旭东 ( b.1965)

The Way of Wisdom and Auspice
荔园教子
Chinese Ink on Rice Paper/宣纸水墨画
100 x 50cm

The Way of Wisdom and Auspice (荔园教子) is an evocative ink painting which serves as both a visual metaphor and a cultural blessing. Rooted in traditional Chinese philosophy, the artwork conveys a dual intention: it symbolizes the teaching of essential survival wisdom to children while simultaneously invoking the auspicious energies of prosperity and good fortune.

The brushwork—dynamic yet controlled—reflects the moral weight of imparting life lessons, echoing the Confucian ideal that education is both a personal foundation and a generational duty. Embedded in the piece is an elegant balance: the strength required to navigate the world and the grace to do so with dignity.

With its elegant composition and layered symbolism, this work speaks not only to the cultivation of character but also to the enduring hopes of prosperity and well-being passed from one generation to the next.
