Adam Shen Xudong / 沈旭东 ( b.1965)

Swiss Landscape
瑞士风光图
Chinese Ink on Rice Paper / 宣纸水墨画
49 x 99 cm

This vibrant Chinese ink painting captures the idyllic charm of the Swiss countryside through the lens of traditional brushwork and delicate colour layering. Nestled among rolling hills and majestic mountains, clusters of colourful houses and pine-lined slopes evoke a serene and picturesque Alpine village.

Shen was inspired by a fleeting moment of beauty seen from a train window, skillfully transforming a brief visual impression into a timeless composition.

窗外飞过万山色,捕捉几点入画来。
在车窗里往外看的景色真的很美。
“As the myriad mountain hues rushed past the window, a few fleeting moments were captured into this painting. The scenery outside the train window was truly beautiful.”

Blending the sensibilities of Eastern painting with a Western subject, the work speaks to a universal appreciation for nature’s quiet splendor and the joy of travel. The use of Chinese brush techniques to depict a European setting gives the piece a unique cross-cultural depth.
